Hi, I'm Emily DeFoe, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and Kansas (LCSW, LSCSW). I work with adolescents (12+), individuals, and couples, utilizing a trauma-informed lens and concepts from CBT, ACT, and DBT skills. I have a strengths-based approach and am LGBTQ+-affirming.
My interest in working with folks to improve their mental health and wellness grew over more than a decade of experience working in educational settings. Following my time spent in the field of education, I completed a Masters degree in Social Work with a clinical focus at the University of Missouri. I currently enjoy combining my knowledge and experience related to addressing mental health needs with my background in education. My professional experience includes: working as a therapist in private practice, outpatient, and inpatient settings; practicing school social work; partnering with families as a home visitor and parent educator with an early childhood education program; and classroom teaching. Through these experiences, I have had opportunities to serve folks representing a broad variety of ages, backgrounds, strengths, challenges, and areas of need.
As a LCSW and therapist, I help clients work toward their goals and address needs relating to:
-anxiety
-depression
-identity exploration
-trauma history
-parenting issues
-communication skills
-building emotional awareness and expression
-mindfulness and overall wellness
-conflict resolution
-health anxiety
-helping professions
-compassion fatigue/burnout
-life transitions
Clients have described my style as "positive, warm, and direct" - I hope and believe that our time working together feels like a safe space to grow.
